Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Michael (Chenwei) Fang, and I am from Nanjing (南京), China. Currently, I’m a sophomore at NC State University.

How long have you been Studying at NC State University?

So far, I’ve been studying in-person for a month already, but I did take a year's worth of online classes.

Tell us what you are studying and what you do in your major.

I’m majoring in Statistics, which is mostly just math. We just gather data, calculate this and that, and then present it.

What’s your favorite thing about your major?

The best thing about my major is that statistics apply to all fields. Everything in the field of science needs stats to prove the research behind the facts. Economics, psychology, linguistics, statistics is an all-round subject, the jack of all trades for all jobs. It’s not even hard either, it's “easy math”.

Tell us one thing we might be surprised to learn about you.

The most surprising thing about me is that there are no surprising things to learn from me. I try to be very upfront with my skills and talents, so what you see is what you get. Really, I don’t have any hidden skills or talents.

What do you like to do outside of school?

I like hanging out with my friends every Friday. Go to a supermarket to buy groceries and then cook and have a meal together. Or on other days, I sometimes go to the library to study or work together with someone on assignments. Other days, my friends and I game together.

What’s your favorite travel destination?

I actually have two favorite travel destinations. One of them is Europe. I’ve been to many countries in Europe, some being: Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Norway. It was fun, and I really want to go again. My other favorite travel destination is Japan. I cannot stress enough about how much I love Japanese culture, from their cuisine to their animations. I want to go next time to see their fireworks.

Do you have any plans for your fall break?

For fall break, I’m debating between either traveling outside with my friends or just staying in Raleigh to relax and unwind.
