Student Spotlight: Ray Wang

Why was this student chosen for the Student Spotlight?
This student was chosen because he is very diligent. He never misses any classes or meetings, and when he is working, he’s really engaged in what he’s doing. His participation is through the roof. Overall, he’s a responsible and note-worthy student to interview.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Ray (Xiaohang Wang), and my 19th birthday just passed (11/3). I’m the oldest in my family, and I have a younger brother who is four years old. I’m from Zhengzhou (郑州), and I graduated from Zhengzhou No. 11 Highschool. I’m still proud to have attended it because quite a few alumni from there became famous later on. One alumni named Zhang Zequn is now a CCTV host, and another one, Liu Yang, was the first female astronaut in China.

How long have you been Studying at NC State University?
So far, I’ve only been studying at NC State University for just a few months. I just started on August 20, 2021 and hope to stay a while.

Tell us what you are studying and what you do in your major.
I’m currently doing exploratory studies, but I’m leaning towards an Agricultural major or minor. For my classes, I just do a lot of lab experiments.

What’s your favorite thing about your major?
It would have to be the experiments. The experiments done in the labs are so exciting; I learn something new every time just looking at the animal and plant cells.

Where is your favorite place to study on campus?
My favorite would be around the College of Biological Sciences. Bostian Hall is a quiet place, and it has great shade outside.

What is your favorite local restaurant off campus?
I don’t really eat often off-campus so I can’t really recommend anything much. However, I do think Jason’s Deli in the Talley Student Center is pretty good. Golden Dragon on Hillsborough Street isn’t too bad either.

Why did you choose NC State?
I chose NC State because I heard many good things about it. It’s ranked in the top 8 in the USA for its agriculture, and it’s in Raleigh, which is a beautiful city to live in. A bonus is that it’s close to the sea.

Tell us one thing we might be surprised to learn about you.
I used to play the piano, but I’m not really interested in it anymore. Right now, I like to watch operas because they are exciting.

What do you like to do outside of school?
Outside of school, I don’t really do much. I do enjoy the times when I go out shopping in Food Lion or Grand Asia Market. The best things to buy from there are dumplings and noodles.

What’s your favorite travel destination?
It would have to be Wilmington Beach, NC.
