What Do Students Love About IPP at SUNY Morrisville?
We’re excited to officially reopen recruitment for IPP at SUNY Morrisville.
To bring this program to life, we’ve created a series of short videos featuring student voices—sharing, in their own words, how this experience has shaped their transition, growth, and confidence.
These voices highlight what makes IPP different than other programs supporting international students at U.S. universities:
- We train students to work smarter, not harder
- Our students develop holistically, not just academically
- We meet students where they are
- Our teachers and advisors are incredibly caring
- Students receive hands-on learning experiences
A common mindset among students is: “
While that can work for some, many quickly realize that college moves fast—and without a clear structure, it’s easy to fall behind or feel overwhelmed.
IPP Director Sarah Bjork says “Many students think they don’t need a pathway but they end up flailing. I get so many students saying I need a transfer option to regroup.” IPP provides:
- A clear and intentional starting point
- Structured guidance through the transition
- Tools to build strong habits early
- Support to ensure they understand how to use those tools
Our program is built on the belief that true success comes from developing the whole student—not just the academic side. Many students don’t initially recognize the areas that could help them succeed even more. But when they stay open and give themselves the opportunity to develop, they often exceed their own expectations.
We intentionally support:
- Mental well-being (focus, stress management, consistency)
- Emotional resilience (confidence, adaptability, self-awareness)
- Physical balance (routine, energy, sustainability)
- Academic readiness (skills, structure, accountability)
The Ideal IPP Student: “No matter what, we want students who value personal development as much as the educational connections we provide. It is personal development that ultimately promotes student success and good career outcomes. Students who take the time to build themselves up are those that are successful in all facets of life.” – IPP Director Sarah Bjork
We work with:
- Students who are already high-performing but want to go further
- Students who feel unsure about their next steps
- Students who know they have more potential but need the right environment to unlock it
What matters most is not where a student starts, but their willingness to grow.
After experiencing extremely stressful prior academic situations, many students remark upon how much more supportive and relaxing they find their time at IPP. You can’t yell at plants to grow faster, sometimes people thrive in lower pressure environments. Then, they may hear the guidance that is being presented to them.
One of the biggest challenges students face is navigating college without consistent guidance.
In many traditional settings:
- Students are expected to figure out complex systems on their own
- Support is available—but not always accessible or understood
- It’s easy to feel lost in the transition
Our program is designed differently.
Students receive:
- Ongoing, consistent guidance
- Personalized support based on their needs and goals
- Help navigating academic systems, expectations, and transitions
- A space to check in, reset, and stay on track
Unlike traditional lecture-based environments, students here experience a different kind of support. Teachers are accessible, responsive, and personally invested, and build real relationships rather than remain distant figures behind a podium.
Through partnerships with institutions within the SUNY Morrisville community, students gain access to hands-on, career-connected experiences.
This includes:
- Practical, real-world learning environments
- Internship opportunities
- Early exposure to career pathways
“SUNY Morrisville emphasizes a hands-on approach of learning by doing.Action-oriented learning labs and true-to-life facilities—many of which are rare or one-of-a-kind in higher education—allow students to “get their hands dirty” and engage in ways that go beyond the traditional classroom environment.
Morrisville’s internship program prepares students for success in the 21st century workplace. Ranked among the top six in the nation by U.S. News & World Report,
