This month, our NC and Vietnam teams came together to showcase the value of studying abroad in North Carolina and to highlight the vibrancy of Vietnam’s student market.
A Taste of Wilmington in Ho Chi Minh City
Our team celebrated UNC-Wilmington in Ho Chi Minh City with an event that captured both the spirit and essence of the school. Hosted at a vibrant seafood restaurant with a playful, beach-inspired atmosphere, the evening featured a red-carpet welcome, Seahawk cut-outs, and custom pins for attendees.
Guests learned more about UNCW and North Carolina as a study destination, while agents enjoyed recognition and prizes for their engagement. The setting created a refreshing and festive environment—an energizing change from the typical hotel conference room.
“My goal is to bring the spirit and energy of the universities closer to our Vietnamese partners so they can see it more vividly, feel inspired, and be motivated to one day experience North Carolina themselves.” — Andrea (left in photo) organized the event!
“I think they were surprised by all the opportunities that NC offers, such as the Research Triangle Park.” — Karin (left in photo)
“I could feel the excitement in the room to learn more about UNCW and the opportunities available.” — Riley (right in photo)
Why Hanoi Looks to NC
Representatives Riley (UNCW), Karin (Elon), and Sarah (Guilford College) brought North Carolina to life—spotlighting their universities, connecting with parents, answering questions, and championing NC as the next big study abroad destination.
“What stood out to me was the incredible energy and high engagement from the agents we met. I truly believe that with increased collaborative marketing efforts, both online and offline, from our partner universities, North Carolina as a whole will finally be recognized as the premier destination it is.” — Ty (left in photo)
Vietnam: A Rising Market for U.S. Higher Ed
Affordability used to be an issue attracting students from Vietnam to the U.S. Now with their expanding middle class and interest in Transnational Education, the Vietnamese market is bearing fruit in U.S. schools.
- ❖ Applications from Vietnam to U.S. universities rose by 38% in one year (for 2024-2025) over the previous academic year (source)
- ❖ The middle class in Vietnam is expanding; more students attend international schools or schools with English instruction. This also leads to an increased interest in transnational education (TNE) models (partnered, branch campuses, “campus within campus”). (source)
We’re excited to continue bridging community events in the U.S. and abroad. More events and opportunities are coming!
