With the release of Sora2—an AI video tool capable of generating footage nearly indistinguishable from reality—we’re entering a time when it’s increasingly difficult to tell what’s real and what’s created. As technology continues to shape how we see and focus on the world, we invite our students and partners to stay grounded in their sense of self.
To practice this, we did a meditation on our Fall Trip in the mountains of North Carolina. Just 20 minutes of taking in the atmosphere of the waterfall, fighting the impulse to receive a hit of dopamine from our phones. It was difficult—the phone is truly captivating. But so is a beautiful waterfall when you give it space to flow, a chance to express itself.
After all, nature accepts who you are without judgement. You don’t need to buy a single thing, or look a certain way, to feel safe outside or enjoy its beauty. And the peaceful quiet is a nice break from the constant stimulation and noise we subject ourselves to daily.
Guilford secured nearly $1 million in grant funding to support undergraduates in STEM (Computer Tech Info Systems, Biology, Chemistry). The grant covers tuition, room & board, and mentoring. For students, that means lower costs, stronger support, better chances of completing their degree and being more competitive in the job market.
New rankings have been released! UNCW is ranked among Best Value Schools, Top Public Schools, and has improved in some program rankings, such as the Cameron Business school and psychology which are ranked nationally. “Best Value” indicates they are receiving recognition for delivering quality education at a reasonable cost.
