📢 Gearing Up for Orientation: Remember, You’re the Guide, Not the GPS.
This time of year is quite a busy time. International students are arriving, and they have many questions, concerns, and hopes. You are one of the first people they turn to for support. Meanwhile you are juggling forms, feelings, and five million emails. Breathe.
Now is a good time to remind students: they do not need to be perfect. It is okay to feel confused or unsure. Encourage them to ask questions, try new things, and connect with others. Let them know that missing home is normal, and their accent is not a flaw—it’s their flavor.
As you support students, please remember to take care of yourself too. This season can be stressful, and you are doing a lot. It is okay to take small breaks. It is okay to use tools like Gamma or ChatGPT to help you create presentations, write messages, or plan events. These tools can save time and energy.
Your effort makes a difference. You are not just answering questions, you are helping international students feel welcome, confident, and ready to succeed.
Thank you for everything you do. You are valued and appreciated.
